About the Tour

This hike explores Le Morne Brabant without going to the summit. It is an easier alternative to the classic summit hike, with no technical sections.

Despite not going to the summit, the route offers wide panoramic views very similar in feel to those from higher up, with sweeping perspectives over the south-west lagoons and coastline—enjoyed from a lower, more accessible altitude.

Le Morne Brabant, on Mauritius’ south-west coast, is far more than a mountain. Listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2008, it stands as a powerful symbol of the island’s history—a refuge for escaped slaves and a place of remembrance.

Back in 2004, our Yanature team pioneered hiking on Le Morne Brabant, becoming the first to lead travellers safely along its slopes.

Two decades on, we continue to set the standard: small groups, experienced guides, and a conservation-minded approach rooted in thousands of ascents. Along the way, we share the living ecology of the mountain—from its dry forest to endemic plants like the rare Trochetia boutoniana, Mauritius’ floral emblem.

This itinerary takes you up to the halfway point before continuing around the mountain through hidden corners of the mountain’s cultural and natural heritage, offering a different and more exclusive perspective of Le Morne—quieter, less crowded, and just as striking.

You’ll enjoy panoramic views over the lagoons and coastline, comparable to those from higher up, but reached without any scrambling or exposed sections.

Perfect for those who prefer a less strenuous experience, this tour is accessible to anyone without mobility issues, making it ideal for guests who are less fit or have vertigo.

What you’ll do

  • Meet & Brief (10–15 min)
Meet your guide at the Le Morne meeting point (car park opposite Paradis Beachcomber, near the Wapalapam Island Eatery restaurant). Gear check, safety briefing, and short introduction to the mountain’s UNESCO heritage.
  • Forest approach (45–60 min)
Follow your guide by car to the trailhead, then hike a well-marked trail through forest and open paths. Your guide points out endemic plants, wildlife, and shares stories about Le Morne’s natural and cultural history.
  • Halfway viewpoint & panorama (20–30 min)
Reach the halfway point, where sweeping views open up over the lagoon, mountains, and surrounding landscapes. From here, the route continues around the mountain, leading you through quieter, less-travelled paths that reveal hidden aspects of Le Morne’s cultural and natural heritage. This section offers a more exclusive perspective of the mountain—away from the crowds, yet just as striking. Time for photos and storytelling along the way.
  • Guided descent (45–60 min)
Descend back toward the base of the mountain with stops to enjoy the scenery and take in the peaceful surroundings.
  • Wrap-up (5 min)
Gentle stretch, debrief, and farewell. Your guide may share photos or highlights from the tour afterward.

An unforgettable hike

Apr 17, 2026
Yesterday, my Husband and I climbed Le Morne Brabant with our wonderful guide, Paj.
We were both quite apprehensive beforehand after seeing how steep the mountain was and the mention of ‘scrambling’. However, it was incredible, so much better than we had imagined. At no point did we feel unsafe and Paj was great at guiding us through the tough parts.
We had initially contemplated doing it on our own, but I don’t think we would have completed it without Paj.
He was really informative and showed us all the best view points.
We would 100% recommend booking Yanature.
