This UNESCO World Heritage Site is not only a natural wonder but also a place rich in history, symbolizing freedom for the runaway slaves who once sought refuge here. Along the way, you might spot the Trochetia Boutoniana, the endemic national flower of Mauritius.
It’s a peaceful and refreshing experience, perfect to start your day. At the top, be rewarded with incredible views of the southwest of the island in a serene atmosphere.

What you’ll do

Meet & Brief (10–15 min):
Meet your guide at the Le Morne meeting point before dawn. After introductions, gear check, and safety briefing, you’ll follow your guide by car (approx. 6 km) to the starting point at the foot of Le Morne Brabant. -
Forest Approach (45–60 min):
Begin the hike on a well-marked trail through dry coastal forest in the calm of early morning, as the first light of sunrise starts to reveal the landscape. Your guide will share insights about endemic plants, wildlife, and the cultural history of the area. -
Scramble Section (30–45 min):
Navigate steeper rock sections using your hands for balance, with guidance and pacing from your guide. The sunrise gradually lights up the views as you climb higher. -
Summit Ridge & Panorama (20–30 min):
Reach the high viewpoint for stunning sunrise views over the west and southwest lagoons. Enjoy time for photos, snacks, and stories about Le Morne’s role as a refuge for escaped slaves. -
Guided Descent (60–75 min):
Follow the same route down at a controlled pace, with spotting on short scrambles and plenty of breaks. -
Wrap-Up (5 min):
Gentle stretch, debrief, and farewell. Your guide will share any group photos or clips after the tour.

What to bring?
- Hiking shoes with good grip (no sandals/flip-flops)
- Water: 1.5–2 L per person (add electrolytes if you run hot).
- Small daypack (10–20 L) to keep hands free.
- Sun protection: cap/hat, SPF 50 sunscreen, sunglasses.
- Light, breathable clothing (avoid heavy cotton).
- Snacks: energy bar/fruit/nuts.
- Personal meds (and allergy info)
- Camera or phone for photos
- Optional: Headlamp or flashlight for pre-sunrise sections

- Children under 10.
- Babies in backpacks.
- Pregnancy (any stage).
- Recent injuries or surgery (back, neck, knee, ankle, shoulder).
- Heart conditions or uncontrolled respiratory issues (e.g., poorly controlled asthma).
- Limited mobility or inability to use hands for short rock scrambles.
- Anyone under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
- Inappropriate footwear (sandals/flip-flops/open-toe shoes).
Meeting Point
Meet us on the parking in front of the Wapalapam Island Eatery – Please note that the meeting point is not where we start the hike, once all the participants have arrived, you will have to follow the guide by car to the starting point of the hike (about 6 km further away, at the foot of the Morne Brabant mountain)
Know before you go
- Meeting point is not the start of the hike. Once everyone has arrived, you’ll follow the guide by car (approx. 6 km) to the starting point at the foot of the mountain.
- Weather can change quickly—your guide may adjust the route for safety.
- The hike requires a minimum level of fitness and is generally suitable for participants aged 10 to 65.
- In the event of drizzle or occasional showers, the activity will proceed, but heavy rain at the meeting point on the activity day may lead to cancellation.
- Rain in one region doesn’t necessarily mean the same conditions at the activity location. Therefore, the decision to cancel/proceed is jointly made by the guide and clients at the meeting point.
- The guide will be the only contact person on the day of the tour before 8:00am (our office is closed from 6pm to 8am. You will receive the guide’s contact details upon booking or on the eve of the activity date by email (make sure to check your spams if you did not receive the email)
- Nov–Apr (hot/wet season): carry extra water, electrolytes, light rain jacket, insect repellent.
- May–Oct (cool/dry, windier season): add a light layer for the summit + windbreaker.

Wild South with Yanature
This one was amazing – walking along the cliffside to reach the Cascade Mamazelle. But the cherry on the top was going down to the natural pool right next to the ocean with waves crashing right next to it. Did this trek with Henry again post the Black sea over Trek. And Henry was very helpful in guiding us to the right spot and ensuring safety all along. Thank you Henry, Yanature – see you guys someday soon again.
Great Experience with Yanature and Henry
Loved the experience with Henry – who paced our trek very well, was very knowledgeable and ensured that everyone in the group was well taken care of and left fully satisfied and with a smile on their face. The forest itself is amazing – a living ecosystem of greens. And the hike was a 6km loop with an elevation gain of 300m with good views – with the ascent in the first half with a gradual descent in the second half.
Family fun time on the river
Enjoyed the time with Eliza on the river. She was great with the kids and made the experience fun for all of us. We arrived early and had coffee at the shop up the street. Then got the kids ready and went on the river. The first part was a bit of work but after 5 minutes it was smooth sailing.
Amazing- very beginner friendly
My guide was Henri and he was amazing. Though I was a complete beginner and didn’t know how to use mountain bike, he was patient in teaching. He took his time and didn’t rush us. The tour was amazing and is very beginner friendly.
Great photo shoot in a wonderful place!
This adventure turned out to be one of the most exciting and memorable experiences I've had on the island! Our guide, Paj, was there to help us along the entire route. He told us about the waterfalls, answered all our questions, and took lots of amazing photos! This is important to me, as I am traveling alone. This wasn't just an organized tour on paved paths, but a true jungle trek! 🙂
